Deus Ex: Revision GOG Edition is designed to work with the GOG Galaxy Client and requires Deus Ex GOTY to be installed to function. I've never played any Deus Ex, but always wanted to. Just acquired it on sale, and wanted to know if I should go straight for the mod or stick to the original. I don't mind old/dated graphics, ui, etc. (still play DOS games from time to time), but am not a stickler and am happy with updated versions that don't cut/diminish the core game (e.g. Baldur's Gate Enhanced).

LinksOfficial Pages▵▵▵▵▵▵Unofficial Pages▵▵▵ (PC tech help)▵ - a robust archive of everything Deus Ex▵ - for all your meming needs. Thank you very much, I really appreciate it. Without trying to sound ungrateful or anything (this really helped and will make things easier), is there any way for you to be a bit more specific?Like how many points exactly into what and stuff like that? And since the game is older. Maybe there is something like a 'problematic segment' in this game. Like: 'if you miss this item, you won't be able to proceed and have to restart' or something like that?Or can I simply start the game and enjoy the ride?I heard there's a strong melee weapon you get halfway through the game, some kind of blue lightning saber or whatever.
I just finished playing it all the way through for the second time. I must have started this game over a dozen times since I first got it in 2000, but I never finished it in the last 15 years until yesterday. What I liked, was having the GEP gun (the huge rocket launcher you can get from your brother Paul at the beginning) and the pistol. In the first level you can pick up the sniper rifle, and the mini crossbow.
Keep these two weapons too, get the baton elsewhere in the first level, and you have all the weapons you need. One more thing to get later, is the dragon's tooth, a blue, light emitting sword that is strong enough (with the arm strength aug) to smash doors and containers of 50% strength or more. That saves on lockpicks and explosives. Highly recommended.I ended the game with the GEP gun, the sword, the assault rifle (HE 20mm rounds rock, it's a grenade launcher as well as an assault rifle!), the assault shotgun (sabot rounds are great against spider bots, turrets etc), the pistol, mini crossbow (great under water, to kill divers and animals) and whatever else could fit. These weapons let you kill whatever you need to, without worrying about ammo since each weapon has its own type of ammo.To kill bots almost silently, I recommend the drone aug: upgraded to level 3, it can kill any bot in the game. Just get the power recycler aug to help with the energy usage of this aug. Max low tech and the combat strength Aug, one hit silent takedowns on any enemy in the game except bosses with the baton to the small of the back. You can even use this combo to blast open some doors and safes with melee weapons instead of lock picks, keys, or explosives.
Everything else is up to preference, computers are strong. Swimming isn't as bad as people say, swimming to trained is especially good IMO since the base swim speed is so slow and it makes a big difference. Plus it's cheap.Edit: side note about Augs. The game presents augmentation canisters as a choice, this is or that, but that's not really true. You can install two augs from the same canister if you have two or more slots for that Aug type and you find a second copy of the canister. This is especially useful for cloak and radar transparency.
Here is my all-around to go build:Computer: Trained at character creation (allows basic hacking and all unique, story related commands), master at endgame (shortest hacking duration, highest amount of credits from ATM's)Rifle is by far my favorite weapon skill, and it's a good idea to raise it to master before anything else. Between the sniper rifle, assault rifle, and perhaps one of the shotguns, you will barely need another weapon.Augs:Microfibral muscle: Carrying the biggest, heaviest objects really helps exploration.Speed enhancement: Also very useful for exploration.Regeneration: Arguably a game breaker at level 4. From what I've seen online some veterans deliberately don't use it as a self imposed challenge, but it's a no brainer if you want a 'good build'.Other skills and augs are up to you. Skilled electronics and lockpicking may be good for your first run, when you're not familiar with the levels and loot. I wouldn't bother with low tech, swimming or environmental training. Pistols are highly useful; a well-modded 10mm can easily carry you half the game. It's not as crazy as HR's pistol, but it's up there.Melee is handy if you want to play non lethally, or massacre buildings worth of enemies with a later-game weapon.

Its a texture pack mod that includes a custom renderer. I use the OpenGL option with it. There are two packs available: version 1.5 has custom textures based on the originals. It's very well done and looks consistent with the original art.
Version 2 just came out, it has the original textures but upscaled with some machine learning process. If you don't want a texture mod you can just use the launcher. I believe it's Kentie's launcher but I could be wrong.I personally like New Vision 1.5 and feel like it makes the game look great on modern PCs without changing things dramatically. Use Hanfling's Launch:Fun fact: The Sold-Out release is one of if not the only release of Deus Ex with third party DRM.I was previously unaware of any and was really excited when I was told about it. Tracked down a physical copy for my own collection and to rip for the.The DRM causes a number of compatibility issues, iirc I was unable to get it running under 64-bit windows. This is similar to the issues the demo version of Project: Snowblind has, which also won't run under 64-bit.Luckily a user was actually able to get the non-DRMed demo exe from Securom themselves:.
